Abi Malonzo has been working in the broadcast media industry for over 10 years. A graduate of BA Journalism with a minor in Creative Writing from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, she was a copywriter and producer for the three-time KBP Award winner for Best Local TV Station in the Philippines, CLTV36.
In 2010, she joined the station’s Creative Services Department, where she was in charge of copywriting and branding as well as producing AVP’s and advertisements both in print and TV. Within a year, she was promoted to head of the department, overseeing projects such as the branding for the TV Station and its programs, station ID’s and various advocacy ad campaigns of the station, including a series of anti-human trafficking ads which won the Best Advertisement Award at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas' Media and Migration Awards.
During her tenure as Creative Services Department head, CLTV36 launched its voter advocacy campaign Boto Mo, Kinabukasan Mo (Your Vote, Your Future) to its 7 million viewers, encouraging ordinary citizens to take a more active role in governance and participate in community journalism. Other notable campaigns include CLTV36’s charity program Lingap Central Luzon which began as a response to aid victims of Typhoon Ondoy back in 2009 under the previous name CLTV36 Operation Tulong in cooperation with its mother company LausGroup of Companies and various charitable organizations in Pampanga.
Abi’s other interests also include writing fiction, participating in national writing workshops such as the Iyas La Salle Creative Writing Workshop and the Iligan National Writers Workshop, at which she earned the award for Best One-Act Play. One of her plays Bisperas, was also performed at the Sta. Arts Center directed by theater director and Philippine Daily Inquirer critic Nestor U. Torre. Her screenplay Snapshots was also awarded 2nd Place at the national writing competition Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards 2004. Because of her passion for writing, she also enjoys helping other young writers hone their craft by giving talks on writing fiction and writing for the screen through the School Press Advisers' Movement, Inc. and her alma mater St. Scholastica’s Academy Pampanga.
Abi enjoys crafting, mail art, and has published two novels. She is currently working on her third novel.
